Debut 98 - Fashion

 Karine Khachigian

Karine Khachigian is a highly charged, dynamic designer who brings to her work an extensive background in the arts including music, fine art, film design, and embroidery. International travel at a young age has shaped her creative vision. Recently her own line of evening wear, Mezamore Haute Couture, was presented in Dallas, Palm Beach, and New York. In 1996 Karine received the Nolan Miller Scholarship, allowing her to complete her fashion education at FIDM. Karine is excited about the challenges of today's industry and believes that there exists a creative space for the merging of high fashion with the avant-garde.

 Kristin Yvonne Barboza

Kristin Barboza seems to personify the old adage that hard work, consistency, dedication, and a vision pay off in the end. From dressing dolls, designing prom dresses and working retail, Kristin has now focused her fashion career on creating men's wear for the big and tall market. In 1996, Kristin received the Guess Scholarship, allowing her to continue her studies at FIDM, where her representative style culminated in a look featuring simple lines and silhouettes accented by construction detail. With a nod to her humble beginnings, Kristin constantly reminds herself that, "Even though I'm proud of the things I create, I never let myself get too comfortable or satisfied."

 Lily Sarinana

Lily Sarinana believes that "fashion may come and go, but style is the essence that binds fashion for each individual." Largely inspired by her family, dad is a tailor, brother a painter, Lily pulls these influences into her collection, which includes a tranquil but vibrant palette, bold graphic lines, soft and sturdy fabrics. Her background in illustration allows her to actually paint the garments. Lily's goal is to work for a contemporary woman's sportswear company or in the junior market or maybe even branch out into film or illustration.

 Carolyn Shu

Carolyn Shu brings a background in voice, piano, and accounting to her passionate enthusiasm for fashion. Carolyn is a bright young woman who has consistently been on the President's Honor Roll. Her efforts won her the Liz Claiborne and St. John Knits Scholarships, among others. As a designer, Carolyn takes her ideas from the books she reads, the music she hears, and the kids on the street. Combine this with her ability to absorb and process the imperceptible trends in fashion, and that is what Carolyn is all about. Carolyn's philosophy is to combine the finest fabrics with avant-garde ideas and fine craftsmanship.

 Alfred Tai-Kong Ho (Alfred Ho)

"Little Rascals" is the name Alfred Ho envisions for his future line of children's wear. Alfred fell in love with children's wear from the day he turned in his first class project about children. His passion stems from the unlimited happiness, purity, and creativity present in children. Alfred's color choices are bright and saturated with pastel accents. Alfred thinks that parents would like to see their children happy at all times, in an ideal world. His designs are reflective of this happiness.

 Susan Adamyan

Susan Adamyan got an unusual, but most helpful, introduction to fashion by learning fabric durability, stability, and fabrication in her family's dry cleaning establishment. Soon she moved on to private couture studies. In 1995 she came to FIDM to fill in the gaps in her education with more formal training. Susan's collection is elegant and sophisticated, combining chiffons, velvets, and organzas. Her color palette includes black, gray, silver, and golden browns. Always aware of her beginnings in the dry cleaners, Susan still sees room to make a "runway collection" elegant and flashy, as long as you can also come up with wearable, affordable, flattering designs.
