Student Advisement
![]()
The
Student Advisement Department assists with the advancement and completion of a
student’s academic program by providing counseling and support on all aspects
of the FIDM educational experience.
Permanent Withdrawal and Leave of Absence
Each academic program is considered an uninterrupted sequence. If it becomes necessary for a student to withdraw or take a leave from the college, a Leave of Absence/Permanent Withdrawal Form must be completed with the Student Advisement Department. A Leave of Absence may be taken for a maximum of one quarter. Any student taking a Leave of Absence or Withdrawal from the college after the sixth week of classes will receive a fail (“F”) for courses. Students on a Leave of Absence are required to continue their schedule of payments and are eligible to receive placement assistance. Students receiving a Cal Grant award must also notify the California Student Aid Commission of their Leave of Absence or they will lose their award.
- Regarding Refund Information: A refund will be calculated when a student either permanently withdraws or takes an unapproved Leave of Absence. Students are reminded that when a refund is calculated based upon a student’s Leave of Absence, it is the student’s responsibility to reapply for all financial aid prior to returning to the college.
- Regarding Books and Supplies: Students taking a Leave of Absence or Withdrawing from the college after receiving course books and supplies for the quarter will have book and supply charges applied to their account.
Tuition
Tuition policies are reviewed bi-annually. A current tuition schedule is available from the Student Advisement Office as a supplement to this catalog.
Satisfactory Academic Progress
FIDM requires students attending the college to make reasonable progress toward the completion of their educational objective. Failure to meet FIDM’s Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements may result in a student’s losing eligibility for financial aid. Additional information is available from the Student Financial Services Department.
Change of Name/Address and E-mail Address
Students are required to provide a current address at all times. Updates and corrections may be submitted to the Campus Reception Desk or the Student Advisement Office.

Repeat Courses and Fees
Any student who fails a class must repeat that course in order to graduate. A fee of $600.00 for each 3-unit failed course will be charged, plus books and supplies. Book and supply charges are applied at the time a class is failed. The student must again register for the same class previously failed and go to the College Services Bookroom during posted hours beginning the second week of the quarter to have book and supply charges removed from their accounts. Once a fail is repeated, the original “F” will not be counted in the grade point average calculation, but will remain as part of the permanent record. Additional charges are applied when the student exceeds the number of units on his/her contract.
