Ask Fashion Girl
Dear Fashion Girl,
Dear Fashion Girl,
I have a problem. My parents are not the open-minded type and its really hard for me to get creative with my wardrobe without them talking about it. Not only that, but they forbid for me to wear it. I was wondering what kind of techniques I should use so my parents will stop talking and let me wear my wardrobe.

Dear LM,
It can definitely be a challenge to get parents to approve of what you consider a creative wardrobe when they only see it as extreme, wild, or inappropriate. The best way to change their perspective is to explain that you are simply expressing your creativity by way of your wardrobe, just as a painter would use a canvas or a sculptor their clay.
If you are interested in pursuing a career in Fashion, tell your parents how much it means to you to be able to dress creatively and try out unique styles. If they understand that Fashion is to be your career, hopefully they will respect your creations more. Also try giving them examples of different Fashion Designers that you admire and explain how even they had to start somewhere.
Another suggestion is to try and involve them in your wardrobe decisions by asking for their opinions and suggestions about colors, patterns, and combinations. Of course you probably won't agree with all they say, but at least if you are truly communicating they will feel like they are contributing to your clothing decisions.
Good luck,
