Ask Fashion Girl

Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl,

My Homecoming dress is a light champagne color; it is one of those ultra-feminine dresses. I am having a hard time finding shoes. What color and style would you suggest?

Sincerely, Shoeless

Dear Shoeless,

I can understand your dilemma, champagne can be a touchy color! The answer depends a lot on your choice of accessory color. If you are going with black silk flowers in your hair and maybe a black velvet choker (ultra-feminine to match the dress) then you could go with black shoes. I can picture minimal strappy, sandal-style shoes with a medium heel, if you are going without stockings. If you find some closed-toe sandals, then shimmery sheer stockings would work. The accessory color could dictate the color of shoes you choose, for a coordinated look.If you are determined to find shoes to match the dress and have given up on local shoe stores, consider dyeable shoes. These are usually silk-covered and can be dyed to perfectly match your dress. Wedding stores carry a variety of dyeable shoe styles, and often can special order certain styles they don’t stock. You can also shop online for dyeable shoes, as long as you can send a swatch of your dress fabric for the match. Check out www.joyshoes.com for a good selection of these. I’ve seen a lot of champagne colored formal dresses that have a silver, gold, or copper iridescence to the fabric. If your dress fabric is like this, than you could go for shoes in metallic silver, gold, or copper. Since the dress is a very feminine style, I would stay away from shoes that are extremely chunky or bulky. Go for lighter shoes with details like tiny straps, applique, or beading.

Hope you find the perfect shoes!

Sincerely,
