Ask Fashion Girl
Dear Fashion Girl,
Dear Fashion Girl,
I like every kind of clothing and my wardrobe is all over the map. In magazines, they make these combinations of clothes work. How can I make all my styles fit together?
Thanks, Lindsay
Dear Lindsay,
While mixing different styles of clothing together can be done, it's hard! Most of us can't do it all that well. The people that do it for magazines are trained professionals, and even then I don't always like the combinations they come up with. Have you ever heard the phrase,"Don't try this at home!"?
What might work better for you (and the rest of us) is to choose just a couple of styles of clothing, maybe one or two, that coordinate pretty well with each other, such as denim/western and preppy. Or denim/western and gypsy/hippie. But NOT preppy and gypsy/hippie -- if you see what I mean. Those would look pretty silly together, and cause you problems in the wardrobe coordination department.
It takes a little self-discipline to narrow your tastes down from liking everything to buying just what will work, but your wardrobe will be much more manageable in the long run, and your clothes will coordinate much better. Also, stick to buying clothing in just two, or at most three, basic colors and your wardrobe will coordinate much better as well.
Sincerely, Fashion Girl
