Ask Fashion Girl

Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl,

I want to start the winter season with a hit. What should I wear that won't make me look fat and still keep me warm while looking good?

Nicole

Dear Nicole:

The key is to avoid anything tight or skimpy in your stomach area. Look for tops and dresses that are looser at the waist, especially peasant tops and tops that are"empire"waisted–those that have the waistline just below the bustline and are then gathered or A-line. Empire waists are very much in fashion right now, with the whole hippie/bohemian thing. Tunics are also a good shape for you, with their shaped, loose-at-the-waist fit.

Keep the focus up, near your face and throat, with great, open necklines and colors that frame your face. Avoid t-shirts that are short and/or tight. Make sure your top overlaps your pants.

Darker or muted colors are more slimming than pastels, and wearing the same color on top as on the bottom can give the illusion of being taller and slimmer.

Also, avoid wearing pants that are so tight that they accentuate your waistline and stomach. Wear pants that fit correctly. This spring, look for drawstring-waisted pants that give a relaxed fit at the waist.
I hope these tips on dressing slimmer are helpful to you! Have a fashionable day!

Sincerely, Fashion Girl
