Ask Fashion Girl

Dear Fashion Girl,

Dear Fashion Girl,

At my school, we have to wear uniforms. They consist of khaki skorts with maroon polos. How can I stand out from all of my peers when we all look the same?

Melissa

Dear Melissa:

There are lots of ways to stand out from your peers when you're all wearing the same uniform. The trick is to express your individuality via your accessories and your school supplies. Find a backpack in an unusual shape or color, or decorate the one you have with materials from a crafts or fabric store. Use fake fur, leopard print, or any crazy pattern! Add rhinestones and glitter. Also, carry a fun wallet or change purse. Make book covers for your books out of wacky wrapping paper. Carry your lunch in a decorated lunchbox or bag. Decorate your notebook with pictures cut out of a magazine. Become known for wearing unusual socks and maybe even creative footwear. Find a great bracelet or necklace to dress up your outfit.

Your hair is another place where you can separate yourself from the crowd. Do something new with your hair such as braids, pulling the crown hair back so the hair is off your face, or parting the hair in a different way. Interesting barrettes and ponytail holders are great accents to an everyday hairstyle.

If your desire is to be different, only your uniform has to be uniform!

Sincerely, Fashion Girl
