However, the best punk clothes (not to mention the cheapest!) are vintage clothes from the‘70s and‘80s, and clothes that you customize yourself to be punk by cutting them, ripping them, safety pinning them, and writing on them. You can stain them with paint, bleach, grease, or crayon. Taking old clothes and dyeing them black was a common way to make clothes punk in the early days, as was adding studs and patches. It's difficult to buy great punk clothes because from the start of punk, great clothes, such as old dresses, skirts, pants, and discarded uniforms, were found in thrift stores and grandma's closet rather than bought at boutiques. Punk is all about creativity, self-expression, and spending as little money as possible! If you want to be authentically punk, the best route is DIY.
