It took me a while to understand makeup, too. What really helps if you don't know what makeup to wear is to go to a makeup counter at a department store and let the makeup artist there pick out some colors and put them on you. This has really helped me a lot. You are under no obligation to buy the products they show you. (You can if you want, but you don't have to.) You can take their suggestions to the cosmetics aisle of the drugstore, or splurge on what they recommend.

You can also try going to different makeup counters and getting different opinions on what makeup you should wear. There isn't one"right"makeup look for a person, plus makeup styles do change, and there are different tricks you can learn. Try and go when the store is not busy, such as on a weekday morning or afternoon.

Here's a quick tip to make your eyes pop: choose a shadow color that contrasts your eyes in a soft tone and apply it to your lids. For blue eyes, this could be a pale peach or cantaloupe. For green eyes, try a light bronze or caramel tone. Hazel eyes are set off by chestnuts and golden browns. And brown eyes are complemented by almost all neutral shades. Since I've tried these methods of choosing what makeup to wear, I've gotten lots of compliments!
