A garden of inspiration...

Readers will feel as if they are walking through a garden when they review the explosion of flowers covering the pages of "A Flowering Of Quilts". Featured are beautiful floral appliqué quilts of the nineteenth century from the collection at the University of Nebraska's International Quilt Study Center. This book explains how the science of botany and the hobby of gardening evolved into the art of quilting.

Botany became one of the most widely studied sciences for women in the late 1800s. This interest in landscaping inspired the designs for their needlework. Floral motifs, always popular, became even more so and appear on the more than 50 quilts depicted throughout this study.

Depicted within are several popular quilting styles including the following: album, star of Bethlehem, center medallion, and mariner's compass. It includes a detailed description of each quilt, along with design elements that might otherwise be overlooked. "A Flowering of Quilts" is recommended for both the quilter and quilt-lover alike.
