If you want to be a serious player in the “rag trade” check out apparelsearch.com. It calls itself the connecting thread of the apparel industry. This site is that and much, much more.

Vast in scope and precise in details, these are the highlights of this rich, well-designed site:


Design Studio - here they provide services for illustration, including technical drawings, renderings and photography; clothing production; fashion accessories and monitoring trends.
Production - helps you source factories, produce clothing and monitor quality.
Employment - ApparelSearch connects apparel, fashion and textile companies with qualified career-minded individuals. It also has industry specific employment agencies on tap.
Factories - (including contractors, components, trims, shipping, etc.) organized by country and by product. There is everything from Aprons, Bloomers and Bustiers to Vests and Women’s Nightwear.
Models -presents portfolios, agencies, photographers, schools, trade shows, runway shows.

Along the left hand column of the home page is a comprehensive listing of additional categories. Under “Customs” we looked up tariffs for South Africa and found it in a matter of seconds. In the category “Message Boards” we found over one hundred fifty additional job listings from Atlanta to Thailand. Under “Education” there is even a listing for the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising complete with a link to the official website. This website is not only useful but FUN as well. The World of Interiors is an elegant and colorful magazine, rich with photos and interesting articles. This monthly magazine is published in London and provides the reader with a well-illustrated review of the latest in interior trends and directions. Also included in every issue is a section called, “inspiration” where the editors provide you with selected design effects from the various featured homes.

The March 2004 issue covered such diverse subjects on Interiors as:

Farm on the Roof: features a rustic farmstead, complete with livestock, situated on the roof of an industrial warehouse in Antwerp.

The Visionary Miss Lassie: an article about Gladwyn Bush, who experienced her first “vision” at the age of 62, and was compelled to paint her dreams on the walls, doors and shutters of her Cayman Island home.

Sale of the Centuries: antique dealer Christopher Howe is auctioning 20 years’ worth of his acquisitions, from 18th Century plates to an early Eero Saarinen ‘Tulip’ table.

Other features in the March issue covered the world of art and antiques, reviews of books on art, architecture and design, interior design suppliers, and current trade shows, such as London Design Week. The World of Interiors is a unique format for the world of culture- past and present and an informative publication of world events involving interior design and art.

How Music Changed The World Through Five Decades

What guitar, purchased by George Harrison in 1964 was nicknamed “The Beatles’ secret weapon”? In what year did Band Aid record their Christmas single, “Feed The World”? The answers to these questions and many, many more can be found in a fascinating book titled, Rock and Pop Timeline.

Gorgeously illustrated, this book chronicles over forty years of music history, from Elvis to Eminem to just about everyone else in between. The music history is juxtaposed with a healthy dose of world history as well as pop culture. For additional information, fun facts are added throughout. The book is laid out chronologically with each year divided into three-month sections to make it very easy to use.

If you are looking for a more entertaining and colorful way of learning about history or if you are a devoted music aficionado, Rock and Pop Timeline is a sure bet. One word of warning though, bring along plenty of time. Once you pick up this book you will not be able to put it down!
